"...for an understanding of how he photographs, one needs to know that John Wimberley is an animist:
someone who believes that natural phenomena and objects, as rocks, trees, clouds, etc. are alive and have being...
Walking through the landscape, he consciously works on becoming present, in the moment." Georgette Freeman, San Francisco, CA January, 2000
John Wimberley has been photographing the landscape in black and white since 1969. Since then, he has garnered an international reputation as a master photographer and printer, has had more than 60 exhibitions and is represented in over 500 public and private collections.
For John, photography is a spiritual practice, or, in his words, "a way of focusing my full awareness on the things around me." John considers art and spirituality to be inseparable. "For me the function of art is to give form to the spiritual," he explains.
Prices are for archivally processed silver gelatin prints made from original photographic negatives by John Wimberley. Prints are dry-mounted on 4-ply, acid- free mat board. They are window matted and signed in pencil on the front of the mat at the lower right corner of the print. No digital manipulation is used at any stage of the process. For both technical and aesthetic reasons, not all images are available in all sizes. Actual print sizes will be slightly smaller than stated due to the proportions of the image and trimming of borders.
Prints are available in three different sizes and are made in three separate editions of 100 each. When an edition has sold out, it moves into the next tier of pricing . Please contact the gallery for current pricing on the image you are interested in.
